Some Historical Background For Your Trip
(And what makes this trip special)
The Judean Desert is a “bridge” in the history of Israel because of its location between Jerusalem, the holiest of cities, and the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized. History unfolds before your eyes, as you take in Masada, the remnants of King Herod’s palace and the site where the battle between Jewish warriors and the Romans took place; Jericho Observation Deck, the best view over the city of Jericho, one of the oldest cities in the world; Ein Gedi Nature Reserve, a beautiful desert oasis where King David found shelter from King Saul; Qumran National Park, where the oldest biblical scrolls were found, and the Jordan River, where John the Baptist baptized Jesus and where the Israelites entered the Promised Land.
The desert visit is not complete without floating in the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth and along its shores, we will visit the world-renowned Ahava Dead Sea Cosmetics factory, with its secrets of mud and minerals. On our way, we can stop at the Anatot Nature Reserve, ancient home of the Prophet Jeremiah and the first of 60 once active monasteries in the desert. The tour can also include the site of the Good Samaritan, as is written in the New Testament.
